Frequently Asked Questions

  • q-iconWhat are the benefits of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?

Local benefits may include improved skin texture, tone and colour, increased production and improved dispersal of collagen, diminishment of fine lines and wrinkles, brightening of the eyes, lifting, toning and sculpting, diminishment of furrows and double chin. Other benefits may include hormone balancing, increased energy, decreased stress, improved digestion, among other possibilities as this is a whole health wellness treatment in addition to the local facial focus.

  • q-iconWhy Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture instead of Botox or other cosmetic procedures?

There are many people that prefer the more natural look that results from facial acupuncture treatments. No one will ever whisper behind your back about having “a lot of work done!” And with the list of health benefits listed above, isn’t it great to know that not only your face will look fresher and younger, but you will also FEEL it on the inside with improved health. Compared to some other cosmetic procedures, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is often less costly, and less painful.

  • q-iconDoes Facial Acupuncture hurt?

Most people do not find the treatment painful at all as the needles are so small. A few of the points are more tender than others based on location, but any discomfort is short-lived as it is usually just during insertion at these tender points. The needles used for the face are thinner than those used for body points. I purchase only the highest quality needles for the most comfortable experience possible.

  • q-iconAre there any contraindications to receiving Facial Acupuncture treatments?

Yes, the main contraindications are high blood pressure, migraines, acute cold or flu and pregnancy. If you have a condition that is contraindicated for facial acupuncture, general Naturopathic Medicine consultation and treatment would be useful for you prior to starting a series of facial rejuvenation acupuncture. Please contact me if you are interested in general Naturopathic Medical treatment before starting a series.

  • q-iconHow many sessions are required for best results?

To achieve the most out of your facial rejuvenation acupuncture series, you should plan for 12 visits. It is possible to see some subtle results after the first couple of visits, with more noticeable results beginning after 5 – 7 visits.

  • q-iconHow often do I need to come for facial acupuncture sessions?

The ideal treatment plan is generally twice a week, for 6 weeks, or twice a week for 3 weeks, and then once a week for 6 additional weeks.

  • q-iconWhat happens after I complete my series?

Just like most other cosmetic procedures, maintenance sessions are advisable to maintain your results and to protect your investment. Once/month is the recommended ideal, but you may find every other month or seasonally is enough for you to maintain your results. Every 2-5 years, you may find benefit in repeating the 12 session series.

  • q-icon Does insurance cover facial rejuvenation acupuncture?

Most private insurance plans do provide coverage for services provided by a Naturopathic Doctor. This is a health service with side cosmetic benefits, so yes, likely at least part of your treatment should be covered if you have private insurance. OHIP does not cover visits with a Naturopathic Doctor.
